Hair loss treatment for women in Shinjuku — English-friendly clinic

A 1-minute walk from Shinjuku-sanchome Station. Every consultation is handled by our director, a licensed physician (M.D., Ph.D.) — never by a salesperson. All rooms are fully private, so you will not meet other patients. First visit, follow-up visits and counseling are free. Treatment starts from 2,750 yen per month.

Can I be treated if I don’t speak Japanese?

Yes — and we would rather be honest with you about how. Our director is not a fluent English speaker. He uses translation tools during the consultation, and we have prepared written explanations in English for everything that matters: what is causing your hair loss, what each medicine does, what side effects to watch for, and what it will cost.

In practice this works well. We allow extra time for consultations in English, nothing is rushed, and you are welcome to bring a friend or use your own translation app. What we will not do is hand you a leaflet and hope you understood — the doctor confirms with you, in writing, that you have understood before anything is prescribed.

What we treat

We specialise in FAGA (female pattern hair loss). Unlike male pattern baldness, hair loss in women usually spreads gradually across the whole scalp rather than receding at the hairline, which is why it is often noticed late.

  • Thinning at the parting or crown — the most common concern we see
  • Postpartum hair loss — usually temporary, but we can tell you whether yours is
  • Hair loss around menopause — hormonal changes affecting hair thickness
  • Diffuse thinning — overall loss of density and volume
  • Alopecia areata — round patches of hair loss

At your first visit we examine your scalp under a microscope. Some causes of hair loss in women are not FAGA at all, and the treatment is different — so we check before we prescribe.

Your first visit

  1. Book online. Same-day appointments are often available. Booking is in English — no phone call needed.
  2. Consultation with the director (about 60 minutes). We look at your scalp under a microscope and talk through what we find.
  3. You decide. If you want time to think, that is completely fine — we will not pressure you, and there is nothing to pay.
  4. If you start treatment, medication is dispensed on the day.

Please bring a photo ID. If you are taking any medication, or if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive, please tell us — some hair loss medicines cannot be used in those situations, and we will choose accordingly.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Japanese health insurance?

No. Hair loss treatment is not covered by Japanese health insurance for anyone, so all patients pay privately. You do not need to be enrolled in the insurance system to be treated here.

Can I be treated if I am only in Japan short-term?

Yes. We can prescribe for the period you are here. Please tell us your schedule at the consultation so we can plan around it.

How long before I see a change?

Most patients notice a difference in 3 to 6 months, with clearer changes at 6 to 12 months. Results vary from person to person.

Will I meet other patients?

No. All consultations and treatments take place in private rooms, and appointments are spaced so that patients do not cross paths.

Can I be treated if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Some medicines cannot be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and some cannot be used if you are trying to conceive. Please tell us — there are still things we can do, and we will find the safest option for you.
